Delightfully Dopey Kimberly began running in 2008 with the single goal of crossing “running a marathon” off her bucket list…
I choose the 2009 Walt Disney World Marathon as my “goal marathon.” Soon after I finished, I registered for the 2010 5th Anniversary Goofy Challenge and I haven’t looked back. Since then I have run 20 Marathons in 10 U.S. States and 56 Half Marathons. Additionally, I have run over 85 runDisney races including 7 Goofy, 3 Dumbo, 3 Glass Slipper and 3 Dopey Challenges.
On July 8, 2013, at the age of 41, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Because I had the BRCA2 breast cancer gene, I decided to have a bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstruction. Recovery was tough, but I had the goal of getting to the start line of the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend. 30 days post op I ran the Disneyland 5k, 10k and Half Marathon!
During chemotherapy treatments I continued to run, completing two World Marathon Majors – the Chicago and New York City Marathons. I also completed the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge, the Goofy Challenge and the Dopey Challenge. I was featured in the runDisney series Why I runDisney.
When I’m not crossing another race off my list, I enjoy traveling to our National Parks and American Kennel Club dog shows. I liked to ski, hike and ride my bike with the family.
