Perfectly Goofy Gail's 100th runDisney medal!

Perfectly Goofy Gail’s 100th runDisney medal!

Perfectly Goofy Gail began getting active in 2005 with the goal of getting out of the house and loosing some weight.  And while she did manage to loose a few pounds, the best part was the friends she met along the way…

2005 Walt Disney World Triathlon: The race that got Gail hooked on running Disney.

2005 Walt Disney World Triathlon: The race that got Gail hooked on running Disney.

My first runDisney race was the 2005 Walt Disney World Olympic Distance Triathlon with Team in Training.  A triathlon was appealing to me as it seemed less overwhelming than a race concentrated on just one sport – as the swim, bike, and run portions of the race were broken into “manageable” distances.

I had such a great experience I immediately registered for the 2006 Inaugural Goofy Challenge after the triathlon without really knowing what I was getting myself into – I just knew I’d had a blast and had a group of like-minded crazies that were willing to do this with me.

The Inaugural Goofy Challenge was only my second half marathon and first full marathon.  Not the smartest thing I’ve ever done (my legs hated me for about a week after that weekend) but I’d do it all over again as it brought runDisney and some awesome running friends into my life.

To this day, members of my 2005 Walt Disney World Olympic Distance Triathlon with Team in Training group participate in many of the Walt Disney World runDisney events with me either running or volunteering!

Today, I’ve earned over 100 runDisney race medals – including every Goofy Challenge, a perfect Coast to Coast Challenge streak, and every Dopey Challenge and plan to continuing running Disney as long as I can – it’s the reason I got into running and means so much to me (not to mention, where else can a middle-aged woman dress up and run around without getting committed…)
